Spring is in the Flair!

Spring is in the air. Buds opening. Birds chirping. Baskets overflowing with candy. It’s a celebration of life, hope and all things colorful – especially the color green. So why not celebrate spring with a table centerpiece that’s green and living?

I found something perfect for this season through a “Happy Accident.” I love to juice, and wheatgrass is one of my favorite ingredients to use because of its nutritious properties. However, one day, I left it sitting out on the counter; my daughter walked by snacking on a handful of malted robin eggs and accidently dropped an egg into the pot of wheatgrass. Voila! A great idea was born – wheatgrass as a centerpiece! I love it on my table because the grass is so vibrant and, with a little TLC, it lives for such a long time.

To make a wheatgrass table centerpiece, here’s what you’ll need:

  • A container of wheatgrass purchased from a health food store
  • Three fuzzy wind-up chicks
  • A bag of Brach’s Fiesta Malted Milk Chocolate Easter Eggs Candy in assorted pastels
  • A pretty container, such as a teacup, coffee mug, pot or small bowl

To assemble your centerpiece:

  1. Bring your wheatgrass home and give it a nice drink of water. Be sure to let it drain well
    before decorating with it.
  2. Take the wheatgrass out of the store container and place it in your own container.
  3. If needed, give your wheatgrass a haircut, so that the objects you’ll be placing into it can
    be easily viewed.
  4. Place one of the fuzzy chicks in the grass.
  5. Place a candied egg near the chick’s feet, in the grass.
  6. Set the wheatgrass on your table.
  7. Now place the other two fuzzy chicks on the table, on each side of your wheatgrass container.
  8. Add a few candied eggs by the chick’s feet.
  9. Be sure to water the wheatgrass every other day to keep it fresh.
  10. Voila! A fun, easy spring centerpiece that everyone will be chirping about.
