How much fun can you have in the historical town of Southington, CT? What is there to do besides hang out at museums and stroll around parks? Hiking is a great family activity and can keep everyone in shape as they socialize. The Metacomet Trail is a hiking trail that measures 51 miles. It is part of the New England National Scenic Trail. It is easy to reach and one of the most rugged (and yet beautiful) trails in the state. When you travel the Metacomet Trail, you can look forward to many historic and ecological sites along the way. Next, we have Ragged Mountain, CT. This mountain measures 761 feet. It is found about three miles west of New Britain, and right in parts of Southington and Berlin. The mountain is commonly used for rock climbing and is popular because of its natural challenges: vistas, cliff faces, ridge reservoirs and unique plants. Usually, tourists view these natural attractions as a dual-ticket; the mountain is traversed by the trail, so it’s an easy traveling distance.

If you have had enough exercise for one lifetime, then relax a bit with a few games of golf. You can check out the Southington Country Club and enjoy 64-69 course rating games with 71 par and 122 slope. This golf club is located right in Apple Valley, and in between the Waterbury Mountains and Meriden. Other attractions in the area include the House of Game on West Main, the Laser Storm park, the Batter-Up Batting Cages and Hidden Valley Park on West Street. There is plenty of exercise, fun and sporting to be enjoyed in this “city of progress.”
